D-Day *Graphic Content*

Early Wednesday morning(Oct. 26), I was in my office playing video games and relaxing on my off day when I began to hear something scratching. Now I will openly admit that I’ve had a squirrel in my attic for some time now and assumed that it was scratching but something didn’t seem right. I went into the living room to find my older cat, Turbo, furiously scratching at the door to my office. I assumed he was hungry and was getting ready to chastise him when Leo walked up to me.

I went over to pet him and my heart dropped. His foot was a bloody mess and I could see the meat and bone. I didn’t think. I scooped him up and gently placed him in his cat carrier while I called the 24 hr vet’s office.
Within half an hour the vet had examined him and told me this was self trauma. Leo previously had a toe amputated on the same foot, his rear left, before I adopted him and the vet believed he might have been having phantom pains this entire time. He strongly recommended amputation due to the potential of him continuing to self harm. The alternative being a honey bandage which, afterward, might not be effective and he might attempt this again.

After a lot of consideration and a phone call with my mom, I agreed to the amputation.
